Sport at South Bersted Church of England Primary School
At South Bersted Church of England Primary School, we offer children a minimum of two hours of sport per week in every class with children having access to a range of exciting equipment inside and outdoors.
In addition to PE sessions, we have competitions, visits and experiences for many of our pupils to take part in. These include; inter house competitions in different sports such as hockey and inclusion sports. In addition to this, through our Sports Premium, we also provide visits from coaches and even professional athletes.
The PE curriculum has been designed so that children will compete with each other at the end of each of their units. This helps the children to work as a team, under pressure and within a competitive environment.
Our annual summer sports day is an exciting event where the children can work in their house teams. It really is a highlight to our sporting calendar and another chance for all of our pupils to demonstrate their sporting abilities in a competitive and fun event.
Before and after school, we provide a range of opportunities for pupils to engage in a range of sports. These range from clubs run by coaches such as gymnastics, multi sports, football and dance to teacher led clubs in netball, basketball and athletics . We even run a ‘change4life’ club which inspires children to not only be active but have a healthy diet as well.
Within the local area, we compete against other schools as part of the School’s Sport Partnership (SSP). We pride ourselves on our sports teams’ reputation for competitiveness, and for displaying many of our school values including endurance and koinonia.
Due to our commitment to sport, in July 2023 we received the Gold School Games Award and the Gold KS 1 Quality Start Award.
Finally, we believe children should be able to experience sport in a range of settings and in Year 4 and Year 6 our children have the opportunity to try a vast range of activities on residential trips.
We actively encourage parents to come and support the children in all of our varied sports events.
